Know Obstacles designs shoes specifically with parkour, freerunning and obstacle course athletes in mind. We work directly with the community to create shoes that fit the very specific needs of these challenging disciplines. We currently offer three different styles with variations in padding, tread, and toe box. Our current line offers three levels of cushion, three levels of breathability, three different grips, and three different toe box sizes.
We believe we have created something for beginners and pros alike. Whether you are a tricker, freerunner, traceur, ninja warrior or just an all-around cross trainer…we have the shoe for you!
The Drop is our minimalist shoe. With only 8mm of rubber and cushion between the balls of your feet and the ground, this zero drop sole is one of the most minimalist shoes on the market. The drop features a wide toe box that allows all five of your metatarsals to engage the ground—allowing stabilizer muscles and tendons to develop and strengthen naturally. Your toes will never get squished because they can expand and grip the ground achieving maximum contact for precisions and balance. Lastly, The Drop features the best "out of the box" grip on the market. Just run your hands across the bottom of this shoe and you will feel it is ready to run up walls and hit rails...there is no scuffing or wearing down of tread necessary.
The GEN3 is a update of our classic styles. Featuring the same upper design, toe box, and heel cup rigidity of the best-selling Gen 2, we have addressed two major concerns from Gen2 critics. First, we eliminated some of the bulkiness of the sole, eliminating excess EVA that extended wider than the sole and the upper, resulting in a more contemporary look that is less like a traditional "running shoe”. Second, and most importantly, we replaced the old KO tread with a more durable one that will not wear as quickly and extends all the way from toe to heel.
The Pre is our “middle of the road” shoe when it comes to cushion and minimalist design. With 2mm more cushion than The Drop but 3.5mm less than the Gen 3, and a more cushioned heel, The Pre is perfect for athletes who don't want the complete minimalism of the Drop but still want shoes that will improve landing technique, strengthen stabilizer muscles, and provide maximum contact with the ground. Sporting an upper design with the moving KO logo, the Pre has a roomier toe box than the Drop. Though both shoes have the same width across the ball of the foot, the Pre was designed with more room in the upper and a more rigid toe protector. Thanks to these innovations gone are the days of your big toe and pinky toe "busting" through your favorite shoe in a matter of months. This toe box design results in these shoes running a bit large, so we recommend you order down 1-size, or even 1.5 of your normal shoe size.
